Coils

Coils are widely used in electronic circuits for filtering frequencies, as oscillator circuits, with transformers, etc.

There are several types of coils that are used with electricity, like electromagnetic, induction coils etc.

If you take a wire and wind some coil around the core, it makes a coil. This will give various characteristics of when AC or DC current goes through with it.When AC passes through it, it can increase output voltage while passing DC it can reduce current.

Three types of coils.

Different type of coils used as Air core, Iron core or ferrite cores.

Electromagnetic – If you take a wire and wind several coils around the core and connect it to the DC current , it can work as a simple electric magnet. These are widely used in relay switches, read switches etc.

Chock coils – When DC current passes through the coil, it will reduce the current amount like a resistor. These are called chock coils. The current amount depends on coil wire size and coil turn amount etc. These are used in some electronic circuit power supplies to filter high current.

Rf coils – Coils are widely used in radio electronic circuits as a filtering deference frequencies, for choosing band levels etc. For high frequency like TV UHF, VHF, FM, SW widely use air core coils.

Transformer coils – Usually use two different coils as primary and secondary for transformers. But the coil can also act like a transformer when AC current passes through it, as it can increase voltage around it.

As an oscillator – Several oscillators use coils and capacitors as main components for determining the output frequency.
